History of Microwave Ovens
The invention of microwave came in to place when a scientist named Dr. Percy Spencer was working with a magnetron. During this process, he found it very strange that the candy in his pocket has melted.
This raised questions in his mind, so performed another experiment with popcorns. He placed the popcorns near the tube and watched as they cracked and were ready to be served.
Then, he called his friend over and then they placed the same experiment with an egg. They noticed the egg shaking. So, his friend went near the egg. The egg burst into his face.
Thus, they reached to a conclusion, that this was all a result of exposure to microwave energy.
Dr. Spencer designed a metal box that transmitted microwave energy towards the food placed in the microwave. This resulted in the increase in the temperature of the food.
Working Principle of Microwaves
In terms of the methodology of the microwaves, the microwaves are transmitted onto the food. These waves cannot be observed with the human eye. This is done via a magnetron.
The magnetron makes use of electrical energy to direct it towards a heated filament. This in turn generates electrons which pave the way for the microwaves to be transmitted upon the food.
This is the way in which the microwaves heat/cook food.
