Refrigerators
Easy to follow guides to help you fix your refrigerator issues and error codes yourself.
How Refrigerators were Invented?
The process of refrigeration has been used by humans for quite a long time. It has been is use for almost a 1000 years. People of the old age used to store the ice for longer periods in ice-houses.
In the late 18th century, the phenomenon was discovered that when a liquid is heated rapidly, it leaves behind a cooling effect. This phenomenon gave birth to the idea of ‘artificial refrigeration’.
Then at the beginning of 20th century, world’s first vapor-compression cooling system was invented by Jacob Perkins. This invention made use of toxic gases which was very dangerous.
Then, a refrigerator with a compressor was invented by Nathaniel B Wales. The toxic gases were replaced with a safer refrigerant called ‘freon gas’.
It came to be known that freon is responsible for causing ozone layer depletion. Then a mixture of tetrafluoromethane was used as a refrigerant.
And at this time, refrigerators were starting to make their way into everybody’s homes.
How Refrigerators Works?
A refrigerator’s job is to maintain a low temperature in a normal environment. This is done by transferring heat outside so that the temperature inside remains cold.
The compressor acts as a pump and a motor. It is responsible for circulating the refrigerant. Then comes the condenser. It disposes the hot air outside.
In order to maintain the temperature inside the refrigerator, an evaporator is used.
An expansions device cools the gas down to turn it back into liquid. Then there’s a thermostat that maintains a refrigerator’s temperature.
