Fix Whirlpool Washing Machine Not Spinning Issue

There are a few causes that lead to the issue of your Whirlpool washing machine not spinning. In this guide, we will cover some solutions regarding this problem.

Washing Machine

There are some components of the washing machine, that cause this issue if they are malfunctioning.

Let’s go through the solutions!

Please note that this guide applies to almost all Whirlpool washing machines including the latest 6th Sense one.

Reset your Whirlpool Washing Machine

First and foremost, we recommend to reset your Whirlpool washer. This is because sometimes, the error code display phantom and does not reflects real error and is easily gone after reset operation.

Issue with the Lid Switch Assembly

If the lid switch assembly of your Whirlpool washer is having any issues, you are likely to experience this problem. When the lid is open, the washer cannot spin.

So, in order to check if there are any issues with the lid switch, check its continuity with a multimeter. If it doesn’t show continuity, then replace it.

Defective Drive Belt

The drive belt should not be broken or loose, in that case, replacing it is recommended.

Alternatively, you can enter the diagnostic mode on your washing machine to see if its drive belt is ok or not.

Motor Coupling

The motor coupling is responsible for connecting the motor to Whirlpool washing machine transmission. In the case of an overload, the motor coupling breaks this connection for the safety of the motor and the transmission.

However, the motor coupling can also malfunction if it has been used for a long time. If the motor coupling is old or broken, you should replace it.

Issue with the Door Latch

The washing machine cannot start operating unless its door is shut. The door latch might have not been shut properly or it might be malfunctioning. You must ensure that it is closed properly.

If that’s not the case, then check any of the switches on the door latch with a multimeter. If any of these switches doesn’t show continuity, then you must replace it.

Issue with the Control Board or the Washer Timer

The washer timer is responsible for stopping the washer’s spin cycle temporarily after specific periods of time.

In order to inspect the washer timer, check the machine for almost 3 minutes when it is draining. Open the lid after almost 3 minutes, if your Whirlpool washer is still spinning, then you have to replace it.
