Fisher & Paykel Washer Door Locked? Try These 5 Solutions

Your Fisher & Paykel washer has finished, but the door is still locked? This is upsetting when you need the clothes and the handle will not move.
First, leave the handle alone. Pulling harder will not release the lock and may turn a small problem into a broken handle.
In most cases the washer is still ending the program, a panel lock is on, or water has not drained. Here is how I would check it.
Fisher & Paykel Washer Door Locked: What to Do
Pause the wash, clear the panel lock, remove any water, reset the power once, and have the latch inspected if it still will not release.
Pause the Program and Leave It Alone
Press Pause or Cancel once. Wait until every drum sound stops, then give the lock another few minutes to release.
There can be short delay after the display changes. Pulling the handle during that time will not make the door unlock sooner.
Clear the Panel Lock
Look for a lit key or lock symbol. If one is showing, press and hold the button named Control Lock until the light goes out.
Controls differ between models, so follow the name printed beside your buttons. This setting only locks the controls on some washers, but it takes a moment to rule out.

Remove Water from the Drum
Can you see water through the door? Select Drain or Spin and let it finish before touching the handle again.
If the water stays there, check our guide for a Fisher & Paykel washer that is not draining. A blocked drain hose are more likely than a bad door handle.

Switch the Power Off Once
When the drum is empty, unplug the washer for five minutes. Plug it back in and wait without starting another wash.
This reset may clear a program that did not end properly. Repeating it many times wont repair a failed latch.

Stop and Have the Latch Opened
If the drum is empty but the door stays shut, the latch may be jammed. Do not slide a knife, wire, or screwdriver into the opening.
A technician can open the washer without damaging the seal and test whether the latch need replacement.
Conclusion
Use these five checks without forcing the Fisher & Paykel door:
- Pause the program and wait
- Clear the panel lock
- Remove water from the drum
- Switch the power off once
- Have a jammed latch opened safely
If you can see water, deal with the drain first. The door should stay closed until the tub is empty.
